Visitor Center “The Story of the Trovants” – Bozioru
✨ Short Description
In the village of Bozioru, Buzău County, a tourist and educational center unique in Romania has been inaugurated: the Visitor Center “The Story of the Trovanților”, part of the UNESCO International Geopark Buzăului Landscape. Here, visitors step into an interactive space where they can discover the formation of trovans, prehistoric life in the Buzăului Delta and “meet” extinct animals through augmented reality. The center offers an engaging experience for all ages and becomes an ideal starting point for exploring the Geopark.

📜 History of the location
The building of the center is housed in the former tourist information center of Bozioru, which temporarily housed the “Shapes Museum”. The space was brought back to life through a joint effort of the Ținutul Buzăului Geopark, Bozioru City Hall and the local community, with volunteers involved in the redevelopment and minimal funding. The project is an example of sustainable local partnership and civic involvement. The story of the trovants – stones with bizarre shapes and fascinating geological histories – is now presented through an innovative concept that is accessible and attractive to the general public.
⭐ Importance and uniqueness of the location
The Bozioru Center is one of the few centers in Romania that combines augmented reality with local geological and cultural information in two interactive halls:
- The first room is dedicated to the trovans, with an educational game in which they “talk” with visitors, explaining their formation and the natural transformations in the prehistoric Buzău Delta.
- The second room reconstructs the prehistoric fauna of 12 million years ago through technology: primitive giraffes, rhinos, elephants, extinct apes and the ancestor of the bear.
This visitor attraction is considered by UNESCO evaluators to be an outstanding example of geological education in a small but extremely well-organized space.
🐉 Local myths and stories
Although the Trovans are formed by natural geological processes, the locals have surrounded them with legends: stones that grow, that “walk” or that watch over villages. The story of the Trovants blends these myths with scientific realities in an accessible and memorable way for visitors of all ages.
