The Thracian Tombs (Necropolis) of Năeni is an important archaeological site, revealing several Thracian-origin tombs dating from 800-600 BC. Among the cult objects, tools, and jewelry discovered here, the most remarkable is the statue of the goddess Anaithis. The necropolis is part of a historical area containing remains from the Bronze Age and Migration Period, making it a site of great cultural and touristic importance.

📜 History of the Site

The Thracian necropolis of Năeni was first discovered in 1938 by historian Nestor, while excavations in 1981 by archaeologists Drâmbocianu and Vulpe uncovered 10 burial tombs and one cremation tomb, dating from 800-600 BC. These tombs, built in stone cists, contained clay pots, bronze jewelry, an Akinakes sword, and ritual objects.

The Necropolis of Năeni is a testament to the Bronze Age Monteoru culture. The discovery of the 4th-century BC statue of Anaithis, an Iranian deity, adds historical and cultural significance to the site. As one of Buzău’s most important archaeological locations, the site preserves a remarkable ancient heritage.
