The Carpathian Mountains region of Buzau is a paradise for off road, motocross and Enduro aficionados. Every year, the national and international off road elite is meeting for training and competitions in Buzau. For the first time, in 2011 took place the Enduro world championship. Highlight of the season is “Romanian Extreme Adventure”, a sort of rally Dakar with an off road track of more than 1.000 km in the region. In 2014 took also place the Motocross European Championship. The Muddy Volcanoes are extended over four different plateaus. Most tourists only visit one of the touristic places. Buzau county looks back on an exciting history. Being stragetically located between the Carpathian Mountains and the Wallachian plain, many tribes left their traces in the course of the centuries: Thracian, Dacians, Romans and many more. The first traces date back to the Iron age.  A period of the bronze dating back to 3000 BC is even called “Monteoru Culture” in sciences, named after the archaeological  site of Sarata Monteoru in Buzau county.
