Sculpture Camp at Măgura

Short Description

The Măgura Sculpture Camp, located near Ciolanu Monastery, about 30 km from Buzău, is Romania’s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition. Established in 1970 by sculptor Gheorghe Coman, the camp was part of a cultural project celebrating 16 centuries of Buzău’s documentary attestation. Over 16 years, 256 stone sculptures were created by 163 sculptors, using limestone from local quarries. After a period of neglect, the sculptures were restored in 2006 and are now open to the public.
