The Salt Mountain in Buzău County is an impressive natural phenomenon located near Lopătari commune, in the Curved Subcarpathians. Also called White Mountain, this natural monument attracts tourists due to the spectacular landscape created by the salt formations. On the way to Lopătari, visitors can observe columns and spikes of salt, and in the valley, a landscape similar to an open-air saltpan is created. The Salt Mountain is part of a nature reserve and offers a unique experience due to the shape of the relief and the fresh air.

The Salt Mountain, also known as the Salt Plateau or Salt Canyon, is a geological phenomenon formed by salt deposits in the area. In the Lopătari and Mânzălești area, this natural formation was created as a result of the dissolving process of salt, creating canyons, columns and salt rocks that form spectacular landscapes.

📍 How to get there
European road E85, and from Mărăcineni commune follow the county road 203K towards Mânzălești – Lopătari. The road to Salt Mountain is accessible by car up to a certain point. The area is quite large but accessible for rock climbers. From the main road there is a canyon (“Salt river” on google maps) approx. 500 m which can be visited. Difficult to cross or visit in rain or winter conditions.

- Safety: Beware of salt colonies, which can be sharp, and of salt mixing with mud on nearby roads, especially in the cold season.

- Program: The Salt Mountain is open all year round. It is best to visit during the dry season for easier access to the various formations.
- Fees: There are no fees for access to Salt Mountain, as it is a natural area open to the public.
