Plaiul Bâscilor
Plaiul Bâscilor designates a new tourist concept, a hilly and mountainous area in the north-western part of Buzău County, about two hours away from Bucharest or Brasov and only 1-1.5 hours from Buzău or Ploiești. Complementing the UNESCO Global Geopark Buzau Land , Plaiul Bâscilor is distinguished by the variety of landscapes, natural richness and potential to revitalize rural life and local tourism.
The name “Plaiul Bâscilor” derives from the fact that several valleys and tributaries of the river Bâsca (Bâsca Chiojdului, Bâsca Mare, Bâsca Mica, etc.) meet here, giving the region a common identity and a valuable natural heritage.
Positioning and accessibility
Strategic location: North-western Buzău county, on the subcarpathian and mountainous border.
- Distances: ~2 hours by car from Bucharest and Brasov (with important air connections), 1-1.5 hours from Buzău or Ploiești.
- Infrastructure: Roads already modernized in certain sectors, internet access, plans to extend the water-canal networks, all designed to support the development of quality tourism.
Plaiul Bâscilor Community
Plaiul Bâscilor brings together local communities with strong roots, people who have lived in the area for generations, as well as newcomers – entrepreneurs, specialists in various fields (architecture, IT, tourism, construction, art) – who want to contribute to the development of the area.
Plaiul Bâscilor aims to become a hub of mountain and sub-Carpathian tourism, where natural treasures, local culture and village hospitality are promoted through responsible initiatives. Through prudent modernization of infrastructure, refurbishment of traditional dwellings and active involvement of local people, the area can experience an economic, social and cultural revival.
From the picturesque villages of Chiojdu, to the valleys and forests surrounding Bâsca Chiojdului, Bâsca Mare and Bâsca Mica, Plaiul Bâscilor offers itself as a new tourist attraction in Buzău County, with the potential to become an example of best practice in the integrated development of an authentic Romanian rural area.
Vision
The Plaiul Bascilor Community is dedicated to preserving the natural and cultural heritage, from the old houses and traditional crafts to the gastronomic recipes and customs handed down from the ancestors. Through responsible investment and respect for local specificity, we promote sustainable development, protecting landscapes and natural resources. At the same time, we ensure that modern services and infrastructure – internet, transportation and quality accommodation – blend harmoniously with the authenticity of traditions, offering tourists unique experiences and contemporary comfort.

History and Cultural Heritage
The region’s heritage is deep and vibrant:
- Traditional homes: the mountain villages are home to century-old dwellings that reflect the local architectural style and authentic craftsmanship.
- Historical Symbols: In some villages, wooden churches and stone crosses, although discreet, carry the weight of religious and historical symbols, recalling ancient traditions and a well-defined cultural identity.
