Lake Siriu

Lake Siriu, an artificial reservoir in Buzău County, was formed between 1972-1994 with the construction of Romania’s second-largest earth dam (122m high, 570m long). Nestled between the Siriu Mountains and Podul Calului, it offers fishing, hiking, and boating, with stunning nearby attractions like Pruncea Waterfall and the Giurca Viaducts.

Eagle’s Lake

Eagle’s Lake (Lacul Vulturilor), at 1,420 meters in the Siriu Mountains, is a periglacial lake surrounded by wild landscapes and legendary tales, including vultures teaching their young to fly. Accessible via marked trails from Siriu (3-4h) or Chiojdu (5h), it offers breathtaking alpine views, with nearby attractions like Siriu Dam and Pruncea Waterfall.

Platou & Lake Meledic

Lake Meledic, located on the Meledic Plateau in Buzău County, is a rare freshwater lake situated on a salt massif, surrounded by stunning landscapes and wooden sculptures. The area, part of the UNESCO-recognized Ținutul Buzăului Geopark, also hosts the 6S Cave, one of the longest salt caves in Europe, and is steeped in legends of hidden treasures.

Pruncea Waterfall (Cașoca)

Pruncea Waterfall, also known as Cașoca Waterfall, is a scenic 5-6 meter cascade in the Podul Calului Massif, about 5 km from Siriu. Surrounded by lush landscapes, it is linked to the legend of outlaw Gheorghilaș and offers a tranquil retreat near other attractions like Siriu Dam and Lake of Eagles.

Penteleu Massif

The Penteleu Massif, the highest peak in the Buzău Mountains at 1772 m, is a nature reserve known for its biodiversity, glacial lakes, and scenic hiking trails. Part of the Natura 2000 network, it offers spectacular views, rich wildlife, and legendary outlaw tales, making it a prime destination for nature and adventure enthusiasts.

Istrita Hill

Istrița Hill, a landmark of history and nature in the Curved Subcarpathians, is known for the discovery of the “Cloșca cu Puii de Aur” treasure, its Dacian and Roman heritage, and the Dealu Mare vineyards. With geological formations, scenic views, and cultural sites like Ambrozie’s Chilia and the Church of a Stone, it offers a unique blend of history, legends, and wine tourism.

Lake Mocearu

Lake Mocearu, a secluded natural gem in Buzău County, is a picturesque karst lake surrounded by dense forests, known for its tranquility and local legends of “underwater eyes.” Despite its challenging access, it offers an authentic experience for nature lovers, being part of the UNESCO Ținutul Buzăului Geopark and close to attractions like the Meledic Plateau and the Living Fire.

Lilac Hill (Dealul cu Lilieci)

Dealul cu Lilieci in Buzău is a protected natural reserve (IUCN Category IV), famous for its spectacular wild lilac bloom in spring, covering 10.5 hectares near Cernătești. Alongside its rich biodiversity, the site also features historical remains like the early Christian “Zidul Mut” ruins, blending nature, history, and local myths into a unique eco-tourism and cultural experience.

The yew forest of Chiojdu is a protected natural area spanning 197 hectares in Buzău County, once home to the rare Taxus baccata species, known for its medicinal properties and historical significance. Although heavily affected by deforestation, the site offers mountain landscapes and access to nearby attractions like Eagle’s Lake, Tabla Buții, and the Trovants of Chiojdu.
