Villa Monteoru, built in 1888, is situated in a dendrological park with exotic species, landscaped in English style. The villa and the park were created by Grigore Monteoru, a Romanian philanthropist and patriot, known for transforming the area of Sărata Monteoru into a popular resort. Although the villa has been used for various purposes, including as a school camp, it is now in a dilapidated state and public access is forbidden. The dendrological park and the villa were returned to the descendants of the Monteoru family and are now under their administration.
📜 History of the Location
Villa Monteoru was built by Grigore Monteoru in 1888 and is a symbol of the development of the area of Sărata Monteoru, which became an important resort due to its salt water springs and the first mechanical oil exploitation in Buzău County. The mansion and park were landscaped with exotic plants from China, Japan and North America. After 1947 the mansion was used as a sanatorium and later as a school camp. Today, the villa and the park are in the administration of the descendants of Grigore Monteoru.
