Legend of the Living Fire

It is said that at the end of Buzau county, in Lopatari commune, on the valley where the Slanic river flows downstream, there is a village with the name of a beautiful mountain woman, Terca. In the village, people built a fountain with caus, with water so cold and tasty, that any man who drinks, is cured of any disease. Many years ago a fierce dragon nested here, frightening people with its ugliness and malice.Nobody had the courage to fight the beast with too many heads to be numbered. Hundreds of red eyes swallowed every mortal breath in a glance, and the many cascading nostrils shot fiery flames into the air.Much fear induced the poor people of Terca, until one day the brave Highlander learned the story of the terrible dragon. He didn’t need a moment’s thought. He immediately mounted his horse and flew like the wind and like thought to the head of Buzaul.
They fought for two days and two nights on a two-splank bridge over the Slanic river, right next to the fountain.Long and hard the two fought, and every now and then they stopped to catch their breath and take a sip of water from the magic fountain. As close as the fight was between the two, our mountain man was the smarter and more courageous, and with one blow he managed to push the dragon’s waters a few metres up the mountain from the road, where with one blow he knocked off several heads and threw them against each other.
Since then, flames have appeared from place to place, from one nostril to the other, bursting manfully from beneath the parched earth.
