✨ Short Description

Cândești Mansion is the oldest mansion in Buzău County, dating from the 16th century. It was the residence of the Cândești boyars, a family with an important role in the leadership of the Romanian countryside. Throughout its history, the manor had several owners, including the Filipescu-Cândescu and Iliescu families, and witnessed the presence of great personalities such as Nicolae Grigorescu, I.L. Caragiale and Alexandru Vlahuță. After nationalization and its use for various purposes, the mansion is now in a state of decay, undergoing rehabilitation with plans to become a tourist attraction.

📜 History of the Location

Cândești Manor was built in the 16th century and played an important role in the political and cultural life of the Romanian countryside. The Cândești boyars, related to ruling families, held important positions in the medieval state. The manor came into the possession of the Filipescu and Cândescu families through the marriage of Constantin Filipescu with Rada Cândescu. In 1880, the mansion was sold to Gogu Iliescu and was frequented by great personalities of the time, including Nicolae Grigorescu, I.L. Caragiale and Henri Coandă. Today, the mansion belongs to the Andrei family. Rehabilitation plans also include the creation of a tourist circuit, which will allow visitors to tour the restored buildings and explore the links with local and national history.

Conacul Cândești is a place with a special history, where important events in Romanian culture and history took place. The painter Nicolae Grigorescu created some of his famous works here, and the mansion was also a meeting place for great literary and political figures of the time.
