📜 History of the Site

Since medieval times, Tabla Buții was an essential customs and trade route between Wallachia and Transylvania. Used since Roman times, the pass was a military and economic corridor for Roman legions, medieval merchants, and warring armies—including the Pecenegs, Cumans, and Tatars. The fortress in the area was rebuilt multiple times, first by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, but was later destroyed and reconstructed during various wars.

Tabla Buții played a crucial role in Dacian, Roman, and medieval defense systems, serving as a vital transit and military outpost between Wallachia and Transylvania. Its strategic importance became evident during World War I, when heavy battles took place here. The Heroes’ Cemetery, where Romanian and German soldiers rest, now stands as a symbol of peace and remembrance.
