📜 History of the location

The area is named “Lacurile Bisoca” (the Bisoca Lakes) due to the presence of two main lakes – Lacul Limpede and Lacul Negru – formed in karst dolines as a result of geological erosion and sedimentation processes over the centuries. The history of this area is closely linked to the ancient settlements in the region, and local folklore recounts that these lakes were once considered sacred, serving as meeting places for venerating the spirits of nature. In medieval times, the forest served as a refuge for outlaws and provided inspiration for local poets and painters, thereby contributing to the region’s cultural heritage.

⭐ Importance and uniqueness of the location

The uniqueness of Pădurea Lacurile Bisoca lies in its extraordinary biodiversity, karst landscapes, and dense forests, dominated by rare pine species and other mountain vegetation. The two lakes – Lacul Limpede, with its crystal-clear waters, and Lacul Negru, with its mysterious dark hues – provide a distinctive natural setting rarely found in the sub-Carpathian region. Protected by strict regulations (IUCN Category IV), the reserve serves as a true sanctuary for local flora and fauna and is an important site for ecological research and environmental studies.

🐉 Local myths and stories

Local legends tell that on clear nights, a mysterious light can be seen on the banks of Lacul Negru, a sign of the forest spirits bringing luck and divine protection. It is also said that the ancient Dacian ancestors used these lakes for rituals and offerings, considering them portals to the other world. These stories, passed down through generations, add an aura of mystery and magic to the site, captivating visitors of all ages.
