The Amber Museum of Colți is Romania’s only museum dedicated exclusively to amber, showcasing its geological, cultural, and historical significance. Inaugurated in 1980 and recently modernized, the museum features amber specimens of various sizes and colors, along with traditional extraction tools. The Buzău area is renowned for its rich amber deposits, making this museum a unique geotourism destination.

📜 History of the Site
The Amber Museum of Colți was established in 1980, following an initiative in 1973 to preserve and exhibit local amber. The museum is housed in a traditional-style building and was renovated between 2019 and 2020 to enhance its exhibitions. The collection is continuously updated to reflect the historical and cultural significance of amber in the region.
⭐ Importance and Uniqueness of the Location
The Colți region is famous for its amber deposits, estimated to be 50-60 million years old. The museum features over 160 shades of amber, including some of the largest specimens in the world, such as a 3.45 kg amber nugget. The exhibits provide an insight into the extraction process, as well as the artistic and cultural traditions surrounding amber.

Amber’s “Calling” – According to local legends, only those who feel a special connection with amber can successfully find it. It is believed that revealing an amber deposit’s location will prevent the discoverer from ever finding another piece.
Healing and Protective Properties – Amber is often used for making amulets and is believed to have magical and healing properties.
